WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY

Hello friends, today is the 14th of June and every year this day countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. The event started in 2004 with a purpose to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.

In this article, Delhi’s top nutritionist and dietitian Avni Kaul talks about some healthy ways to maintain blood and hemoglobin in your body.

Increase Vitamin C Rich Foods

Iron cannot be completely absorbed by the body, which is why it requires a medium to help absorb it well. Hence, this is when vitamin-C comes into play. Consume more oranges, lemon, bell peppers, tomatoes, grapefruits, and berries as they are super rich in vitamin-C content.

Foods Rich In Iron Should Be Your Priority

Iron deficiency is one of the major causes of low hemoglobin levels. Therefore, it is important to load up foods rich in iron like green leafy vegetables, liver, tofu, spinach, eggs, whole grains, pulses, and beans.

Folic Acid Is A Must

Folic acid is a B-complex vitamin which is essential to make red blood cells in the body. A folic acid deficiency may lead to a low hemoglobin level. Eat more green leafy vegetables, sprouts, dried beans, peanuts, and bananas.

Beetroots

Beetroot is one of the finest ways to increase hemoglobin levels. It is not only rich in iron content, but also folic acid along with potassium and fiber. Have beetroot juice daily to ensure a healthy blood count.

Legumes

Legumes like lentils, peanuts, beans, and peas can also help increase hemoglobin levels greatly. Their iron and folic acid content help boost the production of red blood cells in your body.
